The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development announced today that it has awarded close to $3 million in tax credits for the construction or rehabilitation of apartments. HPD said the money will fund the building or renovation of 709 units, 91 percent of which will be set aside for low-income families. The housing will also contribute to Mayor Bloomberg’s ambitious New Housing Marketplace Plan, which aims to construct or preserve 165,000 units of affordable housing in the city over 10 years. In other HPD-related news, the agency said its Web site will now allow residents to check on the status of housing complaints made through 311. HPD’s site also allows New Yorkers to check on city properties’ records of housing code violations. TRD
