A battle for journalistic dominance is about to ensue in East Hampton, sparked by the hefty profits to be made from real estate advertising. The owners of the Southampton Press will introduce a new weekly meant to rival the East Hampton Star, which has been in existence since 1885. The new paper will be called the East Hampton Press. Although the Hamptons’ community papers have small circulations, they are kept afloat by real estate advertising. “It’s a company town,” said David Rattray, editor of the East Hampton Star. “One way or another, pretty much everything is tied to the real estate industry.” more [NYT]
