A Wall Street Journal survey found that weakened business spending was the top concern of economists forecasting the nation’s economic future, outstripping the possible repercussions caused by the country’s shaky housing market as their main worry. “If there’s something that keeps me up at night, it’s the potential of corporate America really pulling back,” said Nariman Behravesh at Global Insight. The U.S. housing market was the forecasters’ second top concern, however, with worries about the collapse of the subprime lending market leading many to believe average home sales prices will drop significantly this year. more [WSJ]
