When Soho’s newest hotel opens this fall, it won’t be the swank affair one might expect given the city’s booming downtown boutique market–it will be a Hampton Inn. The hotel, which will have mid-range rates, will rise 18 stories at 52 Watts Street, according to the building’s architecture firm, Peter F. Poon Associates. The 160-room hotel is being developed by Jeffrey Lam, son of prolific New York hotel builder and garment manufacturer John Lam. Select-service hotels are typically marketed to business travelers, with rates that fall between upscale and economy properties. more By Jason Rhyne
