Columbia University has ramped up its lobbying efforts as it seeks to gain official approval for its 17-acre expansion into Harlem. The school paid more than $440,000 to lobbying firms in the first four months of this year, a notable increase from the $190,000 it spent on lobbying between January and April 2006.
