Balazs buys famous prefab house

Hotelier Andre Balazs purchased a famous house by French designer Jean Prouve that auction house Christie’s has had on display in Long Island City since last month. The modernist masterpiece, called Maison Tropicale, sold for $4.97 million. Prouv designed the house as a model for prefab homes for French colonial officials stationed in Africa. more [NYT]
