Quadriad Realty Partners wants to build a 24-story residential tower in north Williamsburg, a building that would be 19 stories higher than current zoning permits. The developer says the city should rezone the low-rise area so Quadriad can build higher and meet affordable housing quotas on its project. Many neighborhood residents are opposed to the idea of a rezoning, noting that a large chunk of Williamsburg and Greenpoint was rezoned only two years ago. “If we allow them to do this here, we give them the keys to the car. We’re basically undermining every downzoning in the city–present, past and future,” says Philip DePaolo of the New York Community Council. The Dept. of City Planning says Quadriad has not submitted a formal proposal for the rezoning. more [NYDN]
