Opulent apartments sold big on Upper West Side

The New Yorker’s Paul Goldberger says Robert A. M. Stern’s 15 Central Park West, a limestone apartment building that opens this fall, is historical pastiche on a grand scale. The building sold out before it was finished, and brought in more money — almost $2 billion — than any other New York apartment building ever did. Hedge-fund manager Daniel Loeb’s $45 million penthouse was for a time the city’s most expensive apartment ever sold. Other buyers include Denzel Washington, Sting, Norman Lear and Bob Costas. Almost all rooms in the 201 apartments have an open view, along with high ceilings and lots of moldings. more [New Yorker]
