Debris falls at Deutsche Bank building

Falling construction debris at the former Deutsche Bank building injured two firefighters today. The John Galt Corporation, the subcontractor in charge of demolition, has been fired by general contractor Bovis Lend Lease after Saturday’s fire, which killed two firefighters. Galt did not show any public record of its past jobs, clients or employees, and many of its consultants were former executives of Safeway Environmental Corporation, a company that was already dropped from the project. The city had issued violations to the subcontractor this month for “burning operations” that caused sparks and an expired certificate to store and use acetylene. Records also show that the Fire Department had not inspected the building’s standpipes since November. The inspections are supposed to be performed every fifteen days. more [NYT] and more [NYT] and more [NYDN] and more [NYT]
