Daniel Tishman of Tishman Asset Corporation wants to build a 22-story, 333,000-square-foot hotel at the Playpen Theater at 693 Eighth Avenue. The theater was demolished today, despite the protests of preservationists who said it was a valuable relic of the vaudeville era and want to save the theater from demolition. Tishman’s plans for the former pornographic theater at the northwest corner of 44th Street and Eight Avenue also include putting up a small residential building nearby. Tishman purchased the five lots, including the Playpen, for $128 million back in July.
