Use of Battery Maritime Building remains in question

Rehabbing the Battery Maritime Building’s interior as public space while adding a glassy 140-unit hotel on top is proving a difficult challenge for the Dermot Company, the New York developer selected last year for the project. Structural modifications were finally approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission earlier this month, after Dermot revised its original proposal. However, exactly what the building will be used for remains in question. Proposals so far have included creating a space for food-related functions or a space for small exhibitions and shows.
