The Mets’ new stadium, Citifield, will be built with recycled steel and a special type of cement that reduces carbon emissions. Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the green stadium, scheduled to open in 2009, will help spur the redevelopment of nearby Willets Point, the so-called “Iron Triangle.” The area, which is packed with industrial businesses, requires major environmental cleanup before plans can proceed.
