The brother of a construction worker who died during the Turtle Bay crane collapse on March 15 has filed notice that he will sue the city for $30 million. The notice from Christopher Canzona, brother of Clifford Canzona, was the first legal action taken after the disaster, which killed seven people, destroyed a townhouse and damaged several buildings. Canzona, 45, and co-workers fell 18 floors. The claim says the catastrophe was “caused, in part, by the negligence of the city” and the Department of Buildings for failing to properly inspect the site properly and “ignoring obvious defects.” The Real Deal reported yesterday that a moratorium on assembling new cranes threatens to freeze several projects.
