Bowery residents angered by new developments

Residents are mourning the Bowery’s new appeal for outsiders as new high-rise hotels and other attractions rise. Large recent developments including the Bowery Hotel, the AvalonBay buildings and the New Museum have stoked an interest in new nightlife attractions, bringing more tourists and college students to the historic neighborhood. Residents say the increase in commercial development in the area, which mostly lacks landmark designations, driving up rents and reducing the quality of life for long-time residents.
