Two UWS cranes shut down

Two construction cranes working on residential projects have been shut down on the Upper West Side, as the city’s sweep of tower cranes continues. The city Department of Buildings said the cranes, working at Extell’s 41-story Rushmore at 80 Riverside Boulevard and 65th Street and the 27-story 229 West 60th Street, lacked proper permits. Building inspectors have found problems with five cranes at the 19 construction sites checked the sweep began after the March 15 Turtle Bay crane collapse, which killed seven people.
