The city has been blocked from building a restaurant in the pavilion at Union Square Park by a state Supreme Court justice who issued a preliminary injunction against it yesterday. The park’s $21 million renovation, which will improve its comfort stations, playground and historic pavilion, can resume after being halted last week. The Union Square Partnership and the city Parks Department were sued by the Union Square Community Coalition. The city reportedly plans to reserve 1,860 square feet of the pavilion for a restaurant kitchen while the lawsuit proceeds.
