The Manhattan district attorney’s office and the city’s Department of Investigation have widened their investigation of the Department of Buildings. Last week, the city’s chief crane inspector, James Delayo, was arrested on charges of taking bribes. Authorities have turned their attention to the DOB’s Cranes and Derricks Unit, which licenses and inspects cranes. The investigation follows two deadly crane collapses since March.
