Out of the two dozen Brooklyn hotel projects in the pipeline six months ago, only seven will be built within three years because of the down economy, according to Sean Hennessey, CEO of Lodging Advisors. Hennessey estimated that only about 2,000 of the 5,000 planned new rooms would be built. Eight planned projects in Downtown Brooklyn were supposed to create 1,976 new hotel rooms, but construction has started on just four projects that will build 1,146 rooms. About 80 to 85 percent of Brooklyn’s hotel rooms are regularly filled, similar to the citywide rate, Hennessey said.
