A plan to turn an inn on Shelter Island into a luxury drug and alcohol rehab center is upsetting island residents. The owners of Ram’s Head Inn agreed to lease an 18-room colonial building to Amagansett businessman Joe McKinsey, who wants to have the rehab center, Safe Harbor Retreat, open in November. McKinsey plans to charge $40,000 per stay at the center, which would cater to high-profile CEOs and celebrities. Residents are afraid the center will jeopardize the island’s safety and tranquility and plan to fight the proposal.
