Stop-work order issued on Smith Street

The Department of Buildings issued a violation and a stop-work order last month on construction at 250 Smith Street, at Douglass Street, in response to a complaint that the work at the site was being done without displayed permits, according to the blog Pardon Me for Asking. The inspector said the builders seemed to be extending the rear cellar and possibly adding a second story. The permit allowed for a renovation of existing commercial space into a restaurant and bakery on the first floor and an eating and drinking establishment in the basement.
