The Steinway & Sons piano factory in Long Island City is installing a solar-powered heating, cooling and dehumidifying system. The use of solar power will limit the factory’s energy bills and carbon footprint, company officials said. A state grant partially funded the $900,000 project, which is slated for completion in May. The new system is particularly important for the factory, where humidity can make piano parts difficult to fit together.
