Dragon’s Head estate to be demolished

Dragon’s Head in Southampton Village, the massive oceanfront estate on land owned by fashion designer Calvin Klein, is going to be demolished. The mansion was was built in 1924 by Henry Francis du Pont but has been extensively remodeled, so the village Architectural Review Board voted that the estate did not have to be preserved for historic value. Klein plans to build a 17,850-square-foot home that is lower than the 50-foot tall mansion and more in scale with the neighborhood at the 650 Meadow Lane site.
