Firehouses slated to close remain open

Four firehouses that were
slated to close last month are still open, according to the Post. The
houses are Ladder 53 in the Bronx, Engine 4 in Lower Manahttan, Engine
161 in Staten Island and Engine 271 in Brooklyn. Fire Department
spokesperson Frank Gribbon said that for now, they have enough
firefighters to continue to utilize the firehouses, and will close them when staffing decreases. Fire Commissioner
Nicholas Scoppetta said closing the firehouses would save about $8.9
million.
