Fordham University has reached a compromise with community groups and elected officials over its planned expansion. Fordham’s new proposal cuts 206,000 square feet of space from its original 3 million-square-foot plan by moving some classrooms underground, devoting less space to parking and setting buildings farther from the curb. Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer has approved the plans, which also requires Fordham to consult with the community as plans progress. Fordham’s campus is between 60th and 62nd streets, and Amsterdam and Columbus avenues.
