Willets Point business owners sue

More than 20 business owners filed a lawsuit yesterday in state
Supreme Court challenging the city’s environmental review of Willets
Point, in an attempt to stop the redevelopment plans for the area. The
lawsuit contends that the city has not met the state requirements for
environmental impact statements and that the city’s plans for the area
are not concrete enough to justify using eminent domain. The city’s
plans for Willets Point include a hotel, residential units, retail, a
convention center, a school and offices. Many area business owners
have already agreed to sell their land to the city, but some smaller
business owners have not.
