Mayor Michael Bloomberg
has come up with $15 million from federal stimulus money to help
rebuild part of the Coney Island boardwalk. However, the funds will
only cover fixing 15 of the 42 blocks on the crumbling boardwalk. “The
city should step up. They’re talking about how they want to make this a
world-renowned amusement destination. They should put their money where
their mouth is,” said Coney Island activist Dianna Carlin. Brooklyn
Borough President Marty Markowitz said the stimulus funds could
jumpstart the accumulation of money for the boardwalk from other sources.
