Home Depot, Lowe’s claim no defective drywall

Retailers Home Depot and Lowe’s haven’t sold Chinese-made drywall panels, the companies said. Chinese-made drywall has prompted complaints, lawsuits and possibly illnesses through noxious odors. Corporate spokesmen said none of the two stores’ suppliers of the building panels sourced their products from China. A shortage of building materials in the housing boom and reconstruction of communities hit by hurricanes prompted a shortage of drywall and increased imports, which are thought to have included the reeking, sulfurous-smelling panels.
