Bronx sees biggest foreclosure increase

The Bronx saw the biggest increase in foreclosures among the five boroughs in the first quarter, with 580 foreclosure filings, more than double the number at the end of 2008, according to new data from RealtyTrac. Homeowners in Queens had a higher risk of being foreclosed on than residents of other boroughs in the first quarter of this year. The borough saw 1,748 foreclosure filings, a 7.6 percent increase from the end of 2008 — but a 35 percent drop year-over-year. Manhattan had 242 foreclosure notices, a 29 percent increase from the last quarter of 2008.
