AG might form financial fraud task force

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is considering forming a financial fraud task force. Holder said both state and local authorities should be involved in future financial fraud investigations, which would go beyond examining specific factors like mortgage fraud. The Senate is looking to extend federal fraud laws to mortgage lending businesses, which the government does not now regulate. In New York, district attorneys and Senator Charles Schumer announced new legislation this week that would create mortgage fraud units.
