The 14th Street Y unveiled its new $1.2 million renovation over the weekend, featuring better lighting and newer, sleeker furniture. The old space at the Jewish community center, which had seemed “sad [and] very mundane,” according to Guy Zucker, Z-A Studio founder and project architect, came just in the nick of time — almost 500 people reportedly joined the Y since July. Zucker said that the design is aimed at serving a diverse clientele — “We can enhance community through design,” Zucker said.
