The manager of five Manhattan apartment buildings has been charged with grand larceny for posing as a landlord and pocketing $879,000 in rents, according to the New York Daily News. Luis Nunez’s approximately four-year scheme was only revealed when the real landlords noticed that he was shirking his duties and they decided to review his work, according to the DA’s office. The three apartments directly involved in the alleged scheme were all located in Harlem at 45 Tiemann Place, 184-188 Claremont Avenue, and 3139 Broadway and were largely occupied by Columbia University students. If he is found guilty, Nunez faces seven years behind bars. [NYDN]
