YMCA plans $313M expansion citywide

The YMCA of Greater New York has $313 million worth of expansion and renovation plans in the works for 10 facilities across the city, according to the Wall Street Journal, including new centers in the Rockaways, Ridgewood and Coney Island. The organization is also considering a sale of the landmark Harlem YMCA, to be replaced by a new facility as part of football star Emmitt Smith’s $81 million hotel project in the neighborhood. Ultimately, YMCA aims to serve 50 percent more children than the 175,000 who currently utilize its spaces. Funding will come through sales of existing assets, private donations and public-private partnerships with the city, state and developers. [WSJ]
