25 CPW wine bar clears community board

25 Central Park West

A controversial proposal
for a ground-floor wine bar at landmarked 25 Central Park West won
approval for a liquor license by a 2-to-1 margin at the Community Board
meeting last night, but its soon-to-be neighbors upstairs and those
across the street at posh 15 Central Park West aren’t letting go
without a fight. The attorneys they’ve hired said at the meeting that
they would challenge plans for the wine bar on charges that the zoning
in the building does not allow it. Bar owner Greg Hunt — who agreed to
close down at 12:30 a.m. Sunday through Tuesday and 1:30 a.m. Wednesday
through Saturday and to have a designated complaint phone line — will
now head to the State Liquor Authority with his license application.
Hunt had originally asked to keep the joint open until 3 a.m., playing
jazz music and serving food, but has met with fierce opposition from
his wealthy neighbors. [West Side Independent]
