Williamsburg public housing tenants say city has neglected them

Tenants at Jonathan Williams Plaza, a Williamsburg public housing complex, are alleging that the city has neglected their building’s leaky roof, cracks and mold infestation for the past three years despite countless complaints. According to the Brooklyn Paper, some residents say housing workers have responded to their complaints by making visits to the complex but doing shoddy repair work that hasn’t fixed the problems. A spokesperson for the city’s Housing Authority said the agency has been “working extensively” to address the necessary rehabilitation at the complex. A $3.5 million renovation project — including removing the old roofs at each of the five buildings in the complex and replacing them with new ones — is slated for completion later this year, the spokesperson said.
