As controversy continues to swirl around the Park51 community center development in Lower Manhattan, developer Sharif El-Gamal, who considers himself a “lifelong New Yorker,” explained his stance in this “60 Minutes” video. While opponents of the proposed development, which will include a swimming pool, restaurant, childcare facility and prayer room, say that it’s disrespectful to the memory of the Sept. 11 attacks, El-Gamal says his development is not an affront to the community. “I was affected by the horrific events that happened [on Sept. 11] as well,” El-Gamal said.
