The number of newly scheduled residential foreclosure auctions in the city fell to 659 last quarter, down 1 percent from the second quarter and 28 percent from the third quarter of 2009, according to new data from PropertyShark.com. Two years ago, there were 1,128 new foreclosures scheduled across the five boroughs. Of those foreclosures, 59 percent were in Queens; another 14 percent were in Staten Island. The data comes on the heels of a RealtyTrac report released last week, which said overall foreclosure activity — including initial default notices, scheduled auctions and REOs, fell by nearly 25 percent quarter-over-quarter citywide.
