NYC construction industry continues to shed jobs as real estate rebounds

The city’s real estate industry gained another 400 jobs last month, shrinking the sector’s employment deficit to 4.7 percent, or 5,700 jobs, below its April 2008 peak, according to the latest numbers from Eastern Consolidated. The real estate industry in New York City has added 1,500 jobs since the start of the year. The city’s construction industry continues to shed workers, however, with another 2,000 jobs lost in February. Since the start of the year, 3,900 construction jobs, or 3.6 percent of the workforce in the city’s industry, have been eliminated, putting employment levels at 22.3 percent below the April 2008 peak in that sector. Both the real estate and construction industries fared better on a national scale, with the industries adding 7,200 and 33,000 workers nationwide in February. TRD
