Art dealer Gian Enzo Sperone sold his combination three-story apartment at 43 Clarkson Street, near Greenwich Street, for $10.3 million, according to city records filed today. Sperone — who is credited with bringing New York pop art to Europe in the 1970s — is also a founding partner of the Sperone Westwater gallery here in the city.
It’s no real shock that the spread lends itself well to displaying art. The four-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom home has soaring 18-foot ceilings in the parlor, as well as a double row of south-facing windows.
In sum, the home measures 5,725 square feet and occupies floors 2 through 4. The second floor is not currently connected to the two upper levels, though plans have been approved to build a staircase to join them, according to the listing. However, this level is still a treat: It has exposed wooden beams and two offices, which can be converted into bedrooms.
A message to Sperone, sent through a gallery representative, was not immediately returned.
The digs were first listed in March 2012 for $10.9 million. The sale entered contract this past September and transferred earlier this month, according to the documents.
Jan Hashey and Steve Halprin of Douglas Elliman handled the sale on behalf of the seller.
The buyer, listed under a limited liability corporation, could not immediately be identified. Hashey declined to comment on the buyer.
