Hunter College of the City University of New York has closed on its acquisition of the fourth floor at Weill Cornell Medical College’s new Belfer Research Building at 413 East 69th Street, according to public records filed with the city today.

CUNY paid $65 million for the 21,000-square-foot space, which it will use as a laboratory for life sciences research. The university will also have access to Weill Cornell research cores and services, such as conference facilities in the building.

The remainder of the building will be occupied by Weill Cornell Medical College.

The new 480,000-square-foot, 16-story building, which cost around $650 million to build and is situated between First and York avenues on the Upper East Side, is slated to open early this year. It will play host to research into health challenges like cancer, cardiovascular disease, children’s health, neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, and global health and infectious diseases.
