The rapid influx of residents to the East End has local officials searching for solutions to the area’s already notoriously bad cell phone reception.
Locals have in the past opposed efforts to build new cell towers, citing health concerns and aesthetic reasons. But East Hampton Town Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc said that remote workers are using “huge amounts of data,” according to Newsday. He said one solution could be to designate town parcels as “opportunity sites” for service providers to lease and build towers.
U.S. Postal Service data found that between March and June, nearly 5,000 residents have permanently changed their addresses to Suffolk County and another 10,000 have temporarily changed their addresses to the county, according to the report. [Newsday] — Dennis Lynch
