The San Jose home owned by embattled Sharks winger Evander Kane has sold for just over $3.4 million, about $200,000 more than its asking price.

Kane bought the new-build farmhouse-style home just over a year ago for about $3 million, but sold it as part of his ongoing bankruptcy proceedings amid continued legal troubles, including new allegations that he faked his vaccination card in violation of the league’s Covid protocol.

Last month, the league closed a case concerning claims from Kane’s estranged wife, Anna, that he bet on NHL games, but is still looking into domestic abuse charges she has levied during their divorce proceedings. Kane filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy in January, claiming he was nearly $27 million in debt.

Chloe See, the agent who represented the buyers, said her clients did not know of the celebrity connection when they bought the home as part of the bankruptcy sale. They just liked the bright interior, “grassy secluded backyard”, custom cabinets and “exquisite” glass wine cellar, she said.

The buyers, a young couple who work in tech, did not have the highest bid when the first round of offers and counter offers took place on Aug. 28 and were ready to move on, See said. But they were informed of an overbid auction held on Sept. 2, and at that point they came out on top, she said. They closed on Wednesday.

The pair are the second owners of the 3,700-square-foot spec house, which Kane purchased for $3 million last year, shortly after it was completed. The home replaced a small bungalow originally on the property, which was torn down after being purchased by developers in 2018 for $1.3 million.
