Developer plans 200-unit apartment complex in east Oakland

A Los Angeles developer has unveiled plans to build a 200-unit apartment complex in east Oakland.

RMG Housing, based in Hermosa Beach, has released new renderings for the six-story complex at 7300 MacArthur Blvd. in Eastmont, SFYimby reported. The project, to be built on a 1.25-acre lot, will include 20 affordable housing units for special needs tenants..

The 141,930-square-foot building, designed by San Francisco-based BDG Architecture, features a building length mural of an orange California poppy facing 73rd Avenue. The flower is meant to be a placeholder for a public mural by a local artist.

The brown-and-beige structure, broken up into three sections, would be covered in cement plaster, concrete, and metal panels, and decorated by orange-colored accents.

RMG would build the 72-foot tall building with nearly 3,000 square feet of ground-floor shops and restaurants, Parking would be included for 91 cars and 60 bicycles in a ground-level garage and surface lot.

Amenities will include a community room, fitness center and a rooftop patio with views of the Caballo Hills.

The landscaping design is by The Guzzardo Partnership, based in San Francisco. Seattle-based KPFF is the project’s civil engineer.

The apartments will include 15 studios, 165 one-bedroom units, and 20 two-bedroom units. Of the 20 affordable homes, two will be for low-income households and 18 for very-low-income households. According to a density bonus application, “all 20 affordable units will house special needs individuals.”

The cost of construction and a building timeline haven’t been established.

RMG Housing, a developer specializing in permanent supportive housing for those with mental and physical disabilities, is building a 75-unit supportive housing complex in Concord for homeless residents.
