A ranch in the Texas Hill Country that’s been owned by the same family for five generations is about to hit the market.

The General Partners of Thomson Bexar Ranch said today that it plans to part ways with Mt. Solitude Ranch, a 3,630-acre property about 30 minutes northwest of San Antonio in Bexar County. The family ranch, northwest of Scenic Loop Road with lakes, creeks and a lakeside house, was first settled in the 1800s.

“Our family has blossomed over the generations while growing up and making memories on our incredible property,” the Thomson family said in a statement.
“Like so many other generational families, ours has multiplied over the decades. Collectively, we all feel it’s time to find the next stewards and that making this decision in this generation is the wise, although difficult thing to do.”

Demand for Texas ranch land has grown during the pandemic as well-heeled investors and developers purchase properties from long-time owners. The median price per acre in the Austin-Waco-Hill Country submarket rose 37.6 percent year over year, reaching $5,733 in the fourth quarter, according to the Texas Real Estate Research Center at Texas A&M University. Sales volumes more than doubled over 2021 compared with 2019, the last full year prior to the pandemic.
Bernard Uechtritz of the Icon Global Group in Dallas is representing the seller. The firm represents numerous ranch properties nationwide.

“To have such a large, private, and diverse recreational ranch with historic legacy intact so close to major metropolitan areas, less than two hours from Austin, and within about a half hour of San Antonio airport is extremely rare,” Uechtritz said in a statement. “To have a family willing to sell it, even rarer still.”

Uechtritz said pre-market interest for Mt. Solitude Ranch has been “significant” and a market launch will be scheduled within the next two months.
