UPDATE June 15, 2022, 3:15 p.m.: A 22,000-square foot mansion in Houston’s Hunters Creek was listed for a record $60 million by Dallas-based real estate agency Icon Global Group, which described the property as a lodge.

The nine-acre property has never been previously on the market or open to the public, according to Icon. Built out of Indiana limestone, the sprawling estate was six years in construction and completed in 2005, and includes a separate 3,500 square-foot guest home as well as additional staff quarters.

When the estate was offered for sale unpriced prior to the pandemic, it was subsequently withdrawn from the market, but Icon Global Group owner Bernard Uechtritz said that “our client has recently instructed that the estate be sold on the open market with the list price now that we are well through the pandemic.”

Set in a cul de sac behind gates and with additional private security, this enormous property is now on the market with the highest published luxury residential list price in Texas, according to the listing page.

Sitting in the heart of Hunters Creek Village and “within Houston’s wealthiest zip code,” according to the listing, the property is elevated above “a moat of the 18,000-year-old Buffalo Bayou and further buffered by the expansive grounds of the Houston Country Club,” the listing said.

The home was designed by Houston-based Newberry Architecture, widely recognized for his progressive use of traditional and modern construction materials.

“As an architect doing work for over 35 years across the United States and in several other countries around the world, I will tell you that the Romanov in Houston, Texas is one of the most extraordinary houses anyone may ever see,” said architect Ken Newberry, one of the founding members of Newberry Architecture.

The interior of the home incorporates architectural elements selected by the client and shipped from England, France, Belgium, and Italy, Newberry said. The exterior was influenced by and follows the aesthetic of the Richardsonian Romanesque style while also incorporating elements inspired by trips to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina and Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California.

“The estate’s size, price, and amenities put this property in the front row of first-class properties offered nationwide and is among the very best available in the country,” says Uechtritz. “It is certainly the crown jewel of the Texas marketplace.”

This estate is only for security-conscious and private ultra-high net worth clientele, according to the official page, and will only be available to discuss through confidential, pre-qualified requests. There will be no brokers open, nor will it open for broker previews, or to anyone for that matter, who has not first signed a confidentiality agreement and proved they have the money to buy.

“This is without question one of the most expensively built, tasteful, and well-designed compounds ever built in Texas or nationally for that matter that I have seen, and as a result, it follows, and I fully expect, that it will set a new benchmark in residential luxury sales well north of any Houston sale to date,” Newberry says.

UPDATE: Adds that Newberry Architecture designed the home.
