Gym chain creator looks to part ways with Westchester County compound

Nearly three decades after co-founding the deluxe gym chain Equinox Fitness, Vito Errico is looking to pull off another heavy lift — selling a suburban home in a down market.

Errico recently listed his custom-built stone residence in Westchester County for $8.89 million, the New York Post reported. He told the outlet that the 11,423-square-foot Armonk abode is an assemblage of smaller buildings.

“It wasn’t about building a grand, in-your-face mansion, but a home where my family and friends can enjoy their surroundings and one another,” Errico said.

The six-bedroom, six-bathroom home at 21 Sterling Road, built in 2006 and designed in tandem by Bedford-based Carol Kuth Architecture and Five Star House, comes with an indoor pool and a spa area covered by a retractable glass ceiling.

Other amenities include a stone terrace with an outdoor barbecue and fire pit, a billiards room, a home theater and, naturally due to its current owner, a “commercial-grade” gym with an indoor sports court, according to the Post.

Errico previously sold a six-acre Bridgehampton compound for $17.5 million in 2011, according to news reports at the time. Errico and his fellow Equinox co-founders, all of whom are his siblings, sold Equinox for roughly $500 million in 2006 to the Related Companies, which often includes the gym chain in its developments.
