Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed a law that will require the state’s Industrial Development Agencies to livestream their meetings and hearings and post recordings online, Long Island Business News reported. The push for transparency was sparked by “controversial tax breaks” the owners of Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream secured from the Town of Hempstead IDA four years ago, according to the outlet. The meeting focused on that particular project took place at 9 a.m., leaving the “average person” unable to attend, Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages, who sponsored the bill in the Assembly, told the outlet. “This will allow us to view the meetings and have a say,” she said. In a statement, Cuomo said the measure would “help foster civic engagement.” [LIBN]
