East Hampton Town eyes Wainscott parcel for affordable housing plans

East Hampton Town hopes to buy a swath of land in Wainscott as part of an effort to build affordable housing in the area, 27east reported. The 2.5 acre parcel would cost $890,000; the town already agreed to shell out $900,000 for an adjacent parcel, with plans to build affordable housing there. Owning both properties “will expand the options [East Hampton officials] have in crafting a plan to create new housing opportunities,” the outlet reported. “This purchase is another commitment by this Town Board to address the affordable housing crisis,” Councilman David Lys said. A public hearing on the proposed purchase will be held Sept. 19. [27east]
