An affordable housing project in East Northport has been stalled for decades due to what Newsday characterizes as “local opposition tinged with racism.” But it could finally move forward next year, the outlet reported. Huntington-based Blue Sea Development and Greenlawn-based Matinecock Court Housing Development Fund Corp. plan to build 17 two-story buildings, which will house a total of 146 apartments, 70 of which will be rentals and 76 of which will be “owner-occupied,” according to the outlet. The development, known as Matinecock Court, already has the $66 million in funding it needs to move forward, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said. [Newsday]
