Westhampton Beach officials are weighing a proposal for a 52-unit townhome project built on 13 acres between Old Riverhead Road and Depot Road, according to the Southampton Press.

The developer needs approval for a zoning change from single-family residential to multifamily residential. That would about double the number of units allowed on the property.

Some members of the Westhampton Beach Village Board, which reviewed the project earlier this month, expressed concern about the number of bedrooms in each unit. Village code calls for an average of two bedrooms per unit and the developer is planning mostly three-bedroom units.

The concern is that some rooms considered “libraries” in each unit could be converted into bedrooms. [Southampton Press] — Dennis Lynch
