Connecticut’s new rental assistance program appears overwhelmed with calls, according to the Connecticut Post. The $10 million program went live Wednesday. Renter advocacy groups said that people are having trouble getting past busy signals and phone queues to apply for assistance. The Department of Housing said last Thursday that the phone line received 2,200 callers and around 380 completed the first of five steps toward applying for aid, although some of those calls were from people “calling in simultaneously” from multiple phones. The funding comes from the federal government’s coronavirus stimulus package. Advocates say the federal lawmakers need to pass a new stimulus package to provide necessary funds for programs like rental assistance. [Connecticut Post] – Dennis Lynch
